Travel Tuesday: Montreal Street Art

In a Montreal alley… off Boul Saint-Laurent, around the loading docks for Théâtre ESPACE GO
I stumbled upon a fantastical world of mural & street art by the collaborative en masse project!

10 montreal street artists you should know:

conceived by artists jason botkin & tim barnard in 2009,
en masse (from the french for “all together” or “as a whole”)
is a collaborative, multi-artist art project that produces
conceptual, intricate black-and-white murals

the stark, graphic yet decidedly organic nature of their work is hard to miss }}} little-city.ca

Through the Montreal public mural initiative MU, Espace GO, a respected theatre and art venue with a mandate to explore and celebrate francophone creations and work by women artists, had commissioned the huge, immersive, permanent mural in their routinely graffiti-caked loading dock.

Assembling a team that highlighted women artists on the EM roster without separating them, EN MASSE brought together Caro Caron, Zema, Mireille Bouchard, Krista Bursey, Peru Dyer, Flexib, Tyler Rauman, Jason Botkin, Frank Lam and Fred Caron, plus a heap of scaffolding, to thoroughly fill the large and, from Boul. St-Laurent, highly visible space, spilling right up onto and all over the ceiling.
