Hosted and organized by Cathy Petch and facilitated by Brock Hessel, “Hot Damn It’s A Queer Slam!” is the first ever queer slam circuit running right here in Ontario!    The prize? A trip to “Capturing Fire“, Regie Cabico‘s incredible queer summit and slam in Washington DC!

Tonight I had the honour of checking out Holly Painter‘s feature at Bryan Prince Bookseller!

A spoken word artist, public speaker, and certified teacher, Holly is passionate about sharing her stories and advocating for important causes through poetry. holly painter hdqs posterAlthough public speaking was admittedly Holly’s biggest fear, her poetry journey began in 2011 when she first competed on stage at a poetry slam. Now a three-time Grand Slam Champion and Director of the London Poetry Slam, Holly has performed at four national spoken word festivals, a TEDx conference, and over a hundred school and community events across Ontario.

Holly uses her poetry to speak on topics such as diversity, bullying, mental health, and violence prevention, and to empower her audiences to find their voices.  Using poetry to share the messages of “speak your truth” and “show the love”, Holly engages and inspires people searching for their own voice. Holly’s personal stories shed light on her past struggles to be herself and remain strong in the face of adversity, and she shares those experiences through poetry to encourage and empower others.
